Last year I took a look at a few new shows for the new season. There are so many new shows each season and it can be hard to decide which ones to try out, especially if you already watch a lot of shows. I will follow these shows for the next few weeks and let you know if they are worth watching. Here are just some of the many shows that are premiering this season:
666 Park Ave
Network: ABC
Time: Sunday, 10/9c pm
Cast: Rachael Taylor, Dave Annable, Robert Buckley, Samantha Logan, Mercedes Masöhn, Helena Mattsson, Vanessa Williams, Erik Palladino, Terry O’Quinn and Teddy Sears
I wasn’t so sure about this show at first. There’s so many characters that it was hard to connect with any of them in the first two episodes. By the third episode, I’m starting to get interested.
There’s a hidden secret at The Drake. We know there’s a lof of dead people involved, but the actually secret is unclear.
The secret isn’t enough to keep you hooked though.
Terry O’Quinn’s character, Gavin, is a big part of the secret. He has some sort of power. You can make a deal with him and he can give you anything you want, but it’s like you’re selling your soul to the devil.
In the pilot episode there’s a violinist that isn’t very good, but Gavin makes him the best. Gavin comes to him and says it’s time to settle up. The violinist ends up getting sucked into the wall of The Drake. This sounds very much like the crossroads demon in Supernatural, so I wasn’t impressed.
In the second episode there’s a women who has very bad luck with men and Gavin sets her up with someone. She sleeps with him before he tells her that he’s married. She ends up killing him. Apparently this is not the first man she’s killed in rage. She’s a very old woman, who just looks like she’s young. We haven’t been given the reasoning behind this yet though. This was a little more interesting.
In the third episode, there’s a journalist that whatever she writes, Gavin makes come true. She writes for the obituary section at the local paper. She creates a story about a deceased guy saying that he was an American hero. She then is asked to write a follow up story about the man and she creates a very scary man. Who end up breaking into her her apartment and is getting ready to torture her with the murder kit she created. This was more interesting.
None of these little stories are apart of the main storyline.
Rachael Taylor and Dave Annable play the two main characters: Jane and Henry. They are a poor couple who get an amazing chance to manage The Drake and with doing so get a very nice apartment. Jane is researching The Drake to help with restorations and she is uncovering the secret of The Drake bit by bit.
By the third episode I feel like I’m getting to know Jane and Henry now. With so many characters it’s hard to get to know everyone.
My position on the show right now is you should watch the first couple of episodes and by the third you should be getting interested. I will keep you posted if this show continues to intrigue me.
Arrow
Network: The CW
Time: Wednesday, 8/7c pm
Cast: Stephen Amell, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Salmon, Katie Cassidy,Willa Holland and Emily Bett Rickards
So far this show seems like a classic comic book story. That could be a good thing, it’s just too early to tell.
The pilot set a lot up for the sereis.
Stephan Amell’s character Oliver was stranded on a deserted island for five years after his boat got caught in a storm. His dad and ex-girlfriend’s sister both died. He managed to survive and return home, but a different person. He is now on a mission for justice. Apparently his dad told him about some corrupt men and these are the men that Oliver is attacking. He has become Arrow.
There is a lot more death in this show then I am use to on television. In other shows that I’ve watched there are the deaths that come as a shock or like in Supernatural there’s always an innocent killed for them to start a case. In shows like Grey’s Anatomy patients die. I lost count of how many people died in only the first episode of Arrow. That’s more violent than I was expecting, at least from a TV perspective. If this show was a film then I would have expected it.
Not only is there a lot of action and mystery in the show, there’s also a love interest. Katie Cassidy plays Laurel, Oliver’s ex-girlfriend. Oliver is still in love with her, but Laurel is kind of seeing his best friend Tommy, played by Colin Donnell. I’m intrigued to see where this will go.
Arrow has a very Batman feel to it. I never read the Arrow comics, so this is coming from a very fresh perspective. Arrow is a playboy who’s returned home a changed man. Society still sees him as a playboy while he’s doing good in secret, though Batman didn’t kill people on his mission. Arrow is in love with an estranged friend who is a lawyer. Anything sounding familiar yet?
There was a lot packed into the first episode. Is the whole series going to be the same?

Cast: Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Eric Close, Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson and Sam Palladio
There hasn’t been many shows that have gotten me hooked in the first episode. Many shows have intrigued me in the first episode, but not made me want to add them to my DVR right off the bat.
Nashville is amazing. Connie Britton’s character, Rayna, is starting a new phase in her life. She’s a country sensation, but country music is heading in a different direction, fabricated country. The joys of autotune.
Rayna now has to compete with Hayden Panettiere’s character, Juliette. Juliette makes music that sells, but doesn’t have the talent of Rayna.
While Rayna’s career is changing, her husband, played by Eric Close, is running for mayor. She now has to stand on the sidelines for her husband, Teddy. He’s been there for her over the years and now it’s her turn.
Juliette knows she’s popular, but I’m not sure if she knows that she lacks the tallent of Rayna.
There is more than meets the eye to Juliette and Hayden does a good job in portraying that. I’m use to seeing Hayden in innocent roles, but this is no innocent role.
Nashville has original music and I’m not a country fan, but I enjoyed the music. I look forward to the second episode.
